How to add members to a project
Only a member of the project logs hours there and collaborates on that project’s activities. Someone who is not on the team does not log — even if they see a public project in Other projects.
The project creator is already a member. This article is for bringing in the rest of the team.
💡 Who adds, promotes to manager, and removes is whoever edits the project. The person must already exist on the account. A new invite goes out from the Users menu — how to add users.
How to add
Project Members tab with the team
Button to add users to the project
- Open the project.
- Go to the Members tab.
- Click Add users to project.
- In the Add users modal, search by name or team.
- Click Add on the person — or use Add all (the screen confirms the count).
- Finish.
No user on the account yet? The modal has Invite users.
Member and manager
In the list, each person appears as Member or Manager.
- Member — logs their own hours and collaborates on cards, within activity permissions.
- Project manager — on the project where they were promoted, sees other people’s hours and, if they have the extra permission to create/edit projects, adjusts settings, members, and tasks.
In the person’s menu:
- Promote to project manager
- Remove manager permission
- Remove user from project
A regular user does not become a manager. The option stays blocked — the account profile must first be superuser. The summary is in user permissions. If the screen shows Manager with limited access (regular user), change the profile or remove the management.
Join and leave
In the header Options menu:
- Join project — you put yourself on the team of a project you can already see (usually a public project).
- Leave project — you take yourself off the team. On a private project, after leaving you lose access.
Removing someone else asks for confirmation. Removing yourself from a private project warns that access ends.
Billing per person
If the project is Billable by hour, the Members tab shows each person’s $: project default or a custom rate. That is not “adding a member” — it is hourly rate on that project.
