Click hours in reports

The weekly report, the detailed report, and the group summary answer “how much time was it”. Almost always the next question is “what exactly is that number?”. Before, rebuilding the filters on another screen was the path — and it was easy to get the period or the project wrong.

Now a click on the total opens the list of time entries that make up that number. From the team summary to one person’s log, in the same move.

This is for people who read reports — manager, finance, account owner — not for someone logging the day’s hours.

Who it is for

Detailed report, where hour totals are clickableDetailed report, where hour totals are clickable Project manager — sees 12 hours on a client and clicks to know whether they were three people or one, and whether the description is good enough for the invoice.

Finance / billing — checks a total before marking as billed, without rebuilding the detailed report from scratch.

Administrator / operations — audits a spike of hours in the week (“over capacity?”) by opening the detail on the spot.

Team member — usually uses the timesheet or the project list. For the period total, see only your hours in reports. Clicking the total is the path for anyone looking at the consolidated view.

Where it works

Reports > Weekly, Detailed, or Group summary.

The click is on the total (the cell, the number), not on a hidden menu. If the report you use is not one of these three, keep filtering the old way.

How to use it at close

  1. Open the report with the usual filters (period, client, project, person, billable).
  2. Find the number that does not add up in your head — a high day, a project over budget, a person over capacity.
  3. Click the total. The list of time entries behind that number opens right away.
  4. Correct the time entry if needed, or just explain the number to the client with the description already on the record.

The goal is not “one more click”. It is not losing trust in the consolidated view: the total and the list become the same thing.

When to use

Use it in the alignment meeting, at the weekly close, and before exporting for the client.

Do not use it as a substitute for logging hours. Anyone in the middle of the day stays on the project or the timesheet.

What gets easier

The manager stops doubting a number they cannot open. Finance reduces back-and-forth (“send me the detail”). The team discusses the right time entry, not a filter someone forgot.
